Brad Ascalon's journey, from a childhood steeped in art and design to leading his award-winning studio that he established in 2006, is marked by a deep passion for crafting purposeful and elegant objects. Specializing in furniture, lighting, and consumer products, his multidisciplinary practice embraces a reductive approach to design, striving for the perfect and rational harmony of form, function, and concept within the contract, hospitality, and residential sectors.
Collaborating with a diverse array of international clients, Ascalon's inherent global perspective has naturally led to the exhibition of his work in major design hubs worldwide, including Milan, New York, Paris, London, Cologne, Stockholm, Chicago, Los Angeles, Guangzhou, and a unique invitation to singlehandedly represent American design at Moscow Design Week in 2013, demonstrating how his vision transcends borders. His insights and creations have garnered recognition in leading publications globally, such as Interior Design, Wallpaper*, The New York Times, and Architectural Digest, alongside numerous design awards and accolades throughout his career.
Beyond his studio, Ascalon is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of design talent as a graduate-level instructor at the esteemed University of Pennsylvania, bridging the disciplines of design, architecture, and business.
Born outside of Philadelphia, PA, Ascalon's path was profoundly shaped by a family legacy of artistic innovation. His grandfather, a distinguished sculptor and industrial designer, and his father, celebrated for his monumental art installations, instilled in him a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, materiality, and rigor – principles that continue to inform every project he is involved in.
Ascalon earned a Master's degree in Industrial Design from New York's Pratt Institute in 2005, a year in which Wallpaper* magazine recognized him as one of the "Ten Most Wanted" emerging designers on the global stage. Today, Brad, his wife Amy, and their dog Norman call the bucolic North Fork of Long Island, NY, home. While Brad and Amy pursue their professional and personal endeavors, Norman diligently dedicates himself to the essential tasks of napping and enthusiastically monitoring neighborhood activities from the window.
